Evan Shaw’s work has been inspired by form, texture and the primal, natural character of animals. He bases his subject matter on his passion for domestic animals and the conservation of wildlife from around the world, creating sculptures and 3D pictures with skills he has obtained from university and masterclasses with other sculptors. Through experience Evan has developed an understanding of how to create a piece of work which shows the natural quality and emotions of the animal sculptures he produces showing them at rest, at play or in fight/flight stature.
Evan follows a specific process to produce his work which consists of completing a series of drawings and photographic research before he starts to sculpt. This helps him to create a piece which has good proportions and shows the individuality of the animal he is working on. However, on occasion the development process alters the expected outcome for the finished piece but this very often adds to it. Evan uses durable Ashraf Hannah clay and porcelain clay to create his pieces. His work is completely hand crafted and unique. He enjoys experimenting with scale and colour in the production of his work and looks forward to the results when completed.
